Squishy Taylor

An apartment full of questions on a street full of mysteries… Why does Squishy have to share everything with her new step-sisters? Why is her next-door neighbor the crankiest man in the world? Why are green jelly snakes the yummiest? Who's that hiding in the basement?

Squishy Taylor is a 11 year old mystery solving ninja-detective, who is always almost in trouble. Deep down Squishy (whose real name is actually Sita… but she only gets called that when she IS in big trouble) wants to help. But sometimes it’s hard to choose between doing the right thing and doing the exciting thing.

The tone is lighthearted but the subject matter is full of big and little problems that kids face. Squishy is struggling to come to terms with her Mum being overseas, moving in with her Dad and his new family who live in a 2 bedroom Melbourne apartment with her ‘bonus’ mum, twin step-sisters, and new baby half brother. Its main message shows kids that if you put a positive spin on problems they can become exciting challenges instead!

Squishy solves mysteries like; why there is a runaway boy hiding in the big spooky car park under the apartment building and why won’t he go back to see his Dad, who seems so sad and not at all mad like the boy said he is. That her cranky, horrible nextdoor neighbor is not a diamond smuggler, but really an undercover cop! And whether there is a real ghost of a Chinese warrior haunting the apartment block! While solving the big mysteries she contemplates some other important questions like… Why can we only have dessert on Saturday nights? Why are pinky swears so important? And why does red cordial make everyone more fun?
